This Sunday is Palm Sunday. Vilnius has it's own say in this matter.

The year has made a circle and the Saviour is about to resurrect. Two days from now on, on a Sunday before Easter, we will have Palm Sunday. As noted by this source, "On Palm Sunday Christians celebrate the triumphal entry of Jesus Christinto Jerusalem, the week before his death resurrection. For many Christian churches, Palm Sunday, often referred to as "Passion Sunday," marks the beginning of Holy Week, which concludes on Easter Sunday.  The Bible reveals that when Jesus entered Jerusalem, the crowds greeted him by waving and covering his path with palm branches. Immediately following this great time of celebration in the ministry of Jesus, he begins his journey to the cross. The biblical account of Palm Sunday can be found in Matthew 21:1-11; Mark 11:1-11; Luke 19:28-44; and John 12:12-19."

Last year's "verba". Own photo.
These sticks with specially prepared dried flowers are recognized as Lithuanian cultural heritage. Only "verba" made in Vilnius region can receive a certificate of authenticity. These things are taken into the Mass for blessing with holy water and kept at home as protection from fire and illness. Old ones are never thrown away into trash, the only way to get rid of it is in the bonfire.

One such example, reaching 2 metres in height, has been recently presented to the Pope Francis I by our Lady President Dalia Grybauskaite.

Have you ever bought a "verba"?
