True Peace

“But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity. And He came and preached peace to you who were afar off and to those who were near. For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.” - Ephesians 2:13-18

Upon concluding a study on the above portion of scripture I thought it most interesting that people are looking for peace with their fellow man, and or between nations but don’t really know how to obtain it. Treaty’s are ignored or ratified and promises are constantly broken.

My thinking on obtaining peace is first vertical and then horizontal. Vertical in reference to relationship with God. Horizontal in reference to relationship with our fellow man. If one doesn’t have true peace with God, they can not expect to have true peace with their fellow man.

Noticing that in Christ the wall of division between Jew and Gentile has been broken down and the enmity has been abolished is comforting. While their still exists some animosity between them (largely due to a lack of understanding), the Messianic believing Jew and Gentile are now family! Through Christ, God has made a new man! Just a thought…
